Dalarna’s highest ski slope, the peak of Idrefjällen
The Fjätervålen ski resort and cottage village was founded in the 1960s by the forward-thinking landowners Per Nilsson, Pelle Huggute, and Maria Danielsson from Lillfjäten. The first cottages were built in the 1970s, and the first ski lift was built in 1976.
In 1983, Fjätervålen Skidlift AB was formed by a number of enthusiastic cottage owners. Governor Ingvar Gullnäs supported the project and inaugurated the new ski resort on December 28, 1983. Since then, Fjätervålen AB has stood on its own two feet and continuously developed the resort.
In January 2018, the construction and real estate company Serneke became a new partner in Fjätervålen AB. Serneke is one of Sweden’s largest construction groups and their goal is to be perceived as the most innovative, committed, and dynamic company in the industry. They are passionate about social benefits and are heavily involved in sports and health.
Fjätervålen AB currently has around 500 shareholders, most of whom are private individuals with links to Fjätervålen. Ola Serneke AB is the largest owner with 62.5% of the share capital. There are around 250 privately owned cottages in the area.
Fjätervålen AB operates ski lifts, cross-country trails, a ski shop, a ski school, a grocery store, a restaurant, and cottage rentals. Dog sledding and snowmobile tours are operated by independent contractors.
A total of approximately 40 people work in Fjätervålen during the winter season and six people year-round.
