Welcome to cycle and hike in Fjätervålen. On June 20, we are opening four hiking trails, totaling 31 km, and two cycling trails, totaling 6 km.
This is the first step toward a year-round facility and a summer product.
All cycling trails start at the new trail center, just before the parking lot. The hiking trails start at the valley station of the lift (Toppleden & Foskdalsvallsleden), the electric light trail (Fjätervålen runt) and Lillfjäten (Gamla Lillfjätvägen).
Hiking trails
Toppleden 6 km
A trail that offers magnificent views of Städjan and Nipfjällets nature reserve via the top of Fjätervålen, 1002 meters above sea level. From the start, the trail goes diagonally up the ski slopes. The beautiful spruce forest is rich in hanging mosses and is an attractive environment for birds, including the Siberian jay. Above the spruce forest, there are beautiful views, and to the east, you can see the Vedungsfjällen mountains. Above the tree line, there are so-called slukåsar, which were formed during the last ice age. At the top, you are rewarded with miles of views, and to the west, you can see far into Norway. From the top, the trail first heads south and then follows paths down through the ski area again.
Fjätervålen, approx. 12 km
The trail initially follows the illuminated track and then veers left, running parallel to the “Fjället runt” ski trail. Spruce forest dominates at the start, but higher up there are more pine and mountain birch trees. Most of the trail runs through the Städjan and Nipfjället nature reserves, which offer high natural values with centuries-old pine trees and rich wildlife. Near the tree line, the trail turns onto “Gamla Lillfjätvägen.” Just above the tree line, there is a small cold spring on the right-hand side of the trail, which is the last opportunity to fill up with running water before you descend the southern side of the mountain. On the western side of Fjätervålen, you have a beautiful view down into the valley and towards the peaks of Städjan and Nipfjället. This is an excellent place to stop for a short break. On the southern side of the mountain, the trail continues down into spruce forest. At the trail junction, the landscape opens up with sparser forest and marshland. On the final stretch at Björnmyren, the trail runs along a boardwalk, and during the berry season there are good opportunities to find cloudberries.
Foskdalsvallsleden 7 km
Foskdalsvallen is a well-preserved mountain pasture dating back to the 17th century. During the summer, mountain pasture life still continues here. The first stage of the trail follows the same route as the “Toppleden” trail. From the top, the trail then heads south and connects at the tree line to the “Fjätervålen runt” trail . The Foskdalsvallsleden trail passes through beautiful forest, and above the tree line, the view stretches for miles in all directions. At the trail junction south of the mountain, continue south. In addition to the privately owned buildings, there is also a rest hut at Foskdalsvallen that is open to the public. A gravel road connects from road 311, and there is a small parking lot.
Gamla Lillfjätvägen 6. 5 km
A trail with a very long and exciting history. The trail has been used for centuries by priests, postal agents, and people who lived in the area. The trail is part of a network of trails that connects Härjedalen and Dalarna with eastern parts of Norway. From the village of Lillfjäten, the trail enters the Städjan and Nipfjället nature reserves. Here you can find the bright green and poisonous wolf lichen on sunlit dead pine trees. The trail crosses Flötbäcken and reaches the tree line on the northern slope of Fjätervålen. From the tree line, you walk a couple of kilometers along the same route as “Fjället runt” (Around the Mountain). The trail then continues between Fjätervålen and Svartfjället, up to the Foskan River, which flows through the entire valley. At the Foskan River, the trail continues south towards Idre Fjäll and Idre village.
